about
"....and if you understand the man, you start to understand his photographs, formally composed, precise, sculptural, fine details, categorized and of course collections. And after all, that’s what photography is, a form of visual collecting. A collection of, in this case, people. Once you understand exactly who you are and what you are, photography becomes easy. Especially if you have that one ingredient…. passion. You only have to look around Tony’s life to understand that he has that in spades." From the opening speech by Magnum photographer Trent Parke at my exhibition 'artist[s]', Shimmer Festival of Photography, 2020 " Tony is not only a superb photographer he is also one of the main driving forces in photography in this state. So much good has come from his passionate love of the medium." Mark Kimber, photo-based artist and Studio Head of Photography, SA School of Art, UniSA, September 2016. |
I'm an analogue photographer who exhibits regularly and who has recently been concentrating on medium and large format portrait photography. My work is in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery Canberra, hung in the National Portrait Gallery London, and has been chosen to be finalists in numerous national and international portrait prizes. If you are looking for my portrait photography, it can be found here; I also like to photograph found objects that I set up on my kitchen table in dusk light, the odd event, a bit of travel when I can get away, the place where I live (the Port) and whatever catches my eye. Not fussed, I enjoy capturing them all.
